Washington Township House Fire Investigation Postponed

Indiana State Fire Marshal, Fred Sumpter, told WKVI Tuesday that the investigation into the cause of a house fire in Washington Township early Monday morning has been postponed. He cited weather conditions and the integrity of the structure as reasons for the postponement. The investigation will continue as soon as the weather clears.

At midnight Monday, Washington Township Fire Department firefighters were called to a fully engulfed house fire at 7315 E. 100 N. in Washington Township. When firefighters arrived on scene, they saw Diana Jedynak trapped on the outside deck and was having severe difficulty breathing. She was transported from the scene of the fire to Starke Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A fireman, policeman and an EMS technician were treated for minor injuries. The Knox and Hamlet Fire Departments assisted at the scene.
