Shurn thanked everyone for making the evening so special, including his son who surprised his father by flying in from his Air Force Base in Texas. Steven Shurn has just finished a tour of duty in the Middle East. With pride in his voice, the elder Shurn told of his son flying flag-draped coffins home from Iraq and Afghanistan.

After being presented the award, Shurn spoke of the honor of being able to live and work in such a remarkable community.

Master of Ceremonies, Dan Frain, livened the crowd by semi-roasting the honoree. Frain, in more serious moments, spoke of what a marvelous individual Judge Shurn is. He listed all of the organizations and special events the Judge has helped in one way or the other. A scout leader for over 20 years, Judge Shurn asked Boy Scout, Elmer Poisel, to sit with him and the family at the head table.

Shurn is the 29th recipient of the prestigious award.
