Police Recover Stolen Vehicle; Driver Arrested

A Knox man was arrested this week after police found him driving a stolen vehicle.

According to the police report, on March 24th, Rolland McVey, of Knox, reported his truck stolen. He was sitting at his kitchen table when two male subjects came walking into his kitchen from his back room. He asked them how they got in and they said their daughter had been bitten by a dog. McVey said he doesn’t own a dog and he got up from the table and started walking toward them. They turned around and took off running out the back door. He later he looked out and saw his truck missing. His keys were missing from the key hook that hangs next to the back door.  The vehicle is a 1997 teal-colored Ford pick-up truck.

Starke County Police Arrest Monon Man on Burglary Charges after Traffic Stop

A White County man was arrested Thursday night after police found alleged stolen property in his car.

According to a police report, officers were dispatched to intercept a vehicle that was being driven by a male subject that was reported to be harassing a Knox woman into selling a vehicle. The officer intercepted the vehicle at U.S. 35 and Toto Road and found the vehicle to have false and fictitious plates. A traffic stop was conducted where the driver, John Grigsby, was found to have a suspended license.

Manhunt in Pulaski County Nets Arrest

An Idaville, Indiana man was arrested after a two day manhunt in Pulaski County.

On Monday, March 28th at 10:09 p.m. ET, Pulaski County Deputy Ryan Austin stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the area of County Roads 700 West and County Road 500 South. The passenger immediately exited and fled on foot into the darkness. The driver, Jacqueline S. Mayhill, 31, of Monticello, was taken into custody and arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine. The passenger was identified as Charles Douglas Warren, age 47, of Idaville, and was not immediately captured. A manhunt using K-9s was eventually called off at 1:30 a.m.

Cock Fighting Attendees Handed Sentences in Knox City Court

Thirty-three cock fight enthusiasts were sentenced in Knox City Court Thursday. The men were charged with a misdemeanor count of Attending an Animal Fighting Contest. They attended a cock fight in Starke County in February.

Judge Charles Hasnerl fined the men $200 apiece, plus $180 in restitution to the Starke County Humane Society for putting the roosters down, and $164 in court costs.  Each individual was also given a 12 month suspended sentence.

Piano Players Needed for Summer Production of ‘Nunsense-The Mega Musical’

The Maxinkuckee Players are looking for more than singers and dancers for their 2011 summer production of Nunsense-The Mega Musical. Director Becky Liechty says the group is looking for two piano players as well. Call her at (574) 941-2343 for information.

Auditions for roles are scheduled for Saturday, May 7th in the choir room at the Culver High School. There are acting and singing roles for about half-a-dozen adults and roles for many chorus members. Ms. Liechty says a lot of singing and “reasonable” dancing is required by the entire cast. Unfortunately, the show does not have parts for younger children.

Starke County Drug Free Double Dare Event this Sunday

Knox, North Judson-San Pierre and Oreon-Davis students in grades 6-12 will be competing in the annual Drug Free Double Dare event Sunday, April 3rd at 1:30 p.m. CT at the Knox Middle School.

“Drug Free Double Dare is based on the concept of the Nickelodeon Double Dare,” explained Knox Middle School Guidance Counselor, Chris Ross. “We give it an anti-drug twist. The students received a study guide with information about different types of drugs. On Sunday, the students will then answer questions based on what they’ve studied.”

Bremen Troopers Honored with Awards

The Indiana State Police held its annual awards and recognition ceremony Tuesday in Indianapolis.  The ceremony honored and recognized individuals from around the State for their dedication to service, bravery and devotion to the department and the citizens of Indiana.

Robert Murray

Trooper Keith Bikowski received the “Trooper of the District Award” for the Bremen Post for his outstanding service to North Central Indiana.  Bikowski has been an officer with the State Police since 2007.  Robert Murray received the Life Award for the Bremen District for his commitment in removing impaired drivers from Indiana roadways.  This is the third year that Murray has earned the distinction.  Murray has served the State since his appointment in 1996.
