Knox Community School Corporation to Hold Steady with Budget

The Indiana Department of Education has released a preliminary budget estimate for schools and according to Superintendent, A.J. Gappa, the Knox Community School Corporation looks to be in better shape than its neighboring schools. He said that the School Corporation could see an increase in the next two years.

Mr. Gappa said that the reason why many of the schools are getting cut is because the State has redone the funding formula. One of the grants that has been eliminated is the small school grant. The Knox Community School Corporation did not get any money from that grant so cuts there didn’t affect the school’s budget. The restoration grant was also cut and while other schools have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars due to that cut, Knox schools only lost $12,000.

Budget cuts have been reported at the West Central School Corporation and at the North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation where both schools are looking at cutting positions and programs. The West Central School Corporation is looking at being cut $1.2 million in the next three years and the North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation is looking at cuts of almost a million dollars in the next school year.
