Three Offenders Appear in Starke Circuit Court for Initial Hearings

Murriah Dailey

Murriah Dailey made an appearance in Starke Circuit Court Wednesday, but her case has been continued until Friday at 9:00 a.m. due to some issues with the police report. The officer has not yet signed the report, so the prosecuting attorney has been unable to file charges at this time. An affidavit for probable cause has been filed for two counts of Attempted Murder, as well as counts of Motor Vehicle Theft, Battery on a Police Officer, and Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle. More charges are expected to be filed by state police after their investigation is completed.

These charges follow an incident on the night of May 22nd when officers responded to a theft report in San Pierre and initiated a traffic stop on a motorcycle occupied by two people just north of State Road 10. The subjects fled from the officer and were pursued before they abandoned the motorcycle near Toto Road and fled on foot. Dailey was apprehended, but proceeded to gain control of the police vehicle in which she was placed and tried to escape and strike officers with the vehicle. She was unsuccessful, and the vehicle was disabled and Dailey was apprehended.

Her mother was present at the hearing, and addressed Judge Kim Hall requesting a bond reduction. She stated that she can provide Dailey with a “stable home life.” Hall rejected this proposal and the bond remains at $500,000.

Myrtle Beem
Doug Beem

Also in court Wednesday were Douglas Beem and Myrtle Beem and each underwent their initial hearings for charges of Dealing in Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Precursors to Manufacture Methamphetamine, three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, two counts of Possession of a Legend Drug, and one count of Maintaining a Common Nuisance. These charges stem from a search warrant execution on May 17th at 9792 E 150 N in Grovertown.

They both plead not guilty to the charges. Douglas Beem’s attorney status date is set for June 10th at 10:00 a.m. Beem asked Judge Hall to allow him to go to rehab, and he admitted he is an addict and is in need of help. Judge Hall stated there is nothing he can do, as the risks for fleeing Class A Felony charges are far too high.

Myrtle Beem requested a court appointed attorney, and the court appointed her Richard Ballard. Her first pretrial date is scheduled for September 8th. Myrtle Beem also requested a lower bond but her request was denied due to the nature of her charges.

Both of their bonds are set at $100,000 surety.
