Time to Schedule Your Child’s Vaccinations for the School Year

School will be starting for area schools in less than a month and Starke County Health Nurse, Frank Lynch, is encouraging parents to make an immunization appointment at the Health Department as soon as possible so your child is ready for the start of school.

Kindergarten students should be getting their fifth tetanus shot, fourth polio shot, second MMR shot and the second chicken pox shot. Children in grades 6-12 should have their Tetanus and Pertusis Booster, a meningitis shot and their second chicken pox shot.

Lynch said anyone needing assistance may come to the Health Department, but it is recommended that you make an appointment. Call 772-9137. He is seeing all patients, with or without insurance. Immunization clinics are every Tuesday from 10:00-11:30 a.m. and from 1:00-3:30 p.m. The Starke County Health Department is located on the first floor of the Starke County Courthouse.
