Starke County Sheriff’s Department Officers Investigate Two Accidents

Starke County Sheriffs Department officers were called to a one vehicle roll-over accident on U.S. 35 north of State Road 8 (north) this morning.

The driver of the vehicle, Chantel Box, 25, of Knox, was northbound on U.S. 35 when she lost control of her vehicle causing it to go off the roadway and overturn on the eastside of U.S. 35.

Box and her two minor children were not injured in the accident.

The Starke County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Knox City Police Department and the Knox-Center Township Fire Department.

Starke County emergency personnel were called to an accident involving a passenger car and a semi on U.S. 30 east of Knoll Brothers Truckstop shortly after 5:00 p.m. Thursday night.

Police say 63-year-old Melanie Stateman, of Blue Island, Illinois, was westbound on U.S. 30 when her vehicle began to hydroplane, causing the vehicle to cross the median and into the lane of an eastbound semi driven by Leroy Graham, 33, of Ft.Wayne.

Stateman was transported by ambulance to South Bend Memorial for injuries sustained in the accident. Graham was transported by ambulance to IU Health Starke Hospital for complaint of pain to neck and back.
