Week in Review for November 14th-18th, 2011

Here is just some of the news that made the news in the Kankakee Valley this week:

Jennifer A. Wallace

The Pulaski County Prosecutor’s Office has filed two counts of Theft against Jennifer A. Wallace who was recently arrested after allegedly stealing tanning product inventory and cash from Ladybug Laundry and Tan in Winamac.

Dispatchers from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department and surrounding departments encourage you to remove batteries from old cell phones before giving them to children to play. This will help reduce accidental calls to 9-1-1 centers. 

Heather Robbins

Heather Robbins, of Medaryville, was arrested on Sunday after she allegedly lied to police about being beaten by a police impersonator. After an investigation, police learned that she had been at the Sand Bar at Bass Lake and she didn’t want to go to work. She was arrested on a preliminary charge of False Informing, a Class A misdemeanor and police will be seeking restitution.

The West Central School Board is considering the elimination of the Middle School Principal. The issue will be discussed in Executive Session on Tuesday, November 22nd, prior to the Board’s regular session meeting.

Michael Mann

Michael Mann, of North Judson, was arrested on a preliminary charge of Criminal Confinement and Resisting Law Enforcement after he allegedly held a woman against her will.

A Democratic caucus is scheduled for Thursday, December 1st at 7:00 p.m. in order for precinct committee persons to elect a new Starke County Treasurer.

Starke County Jail

The Starke County Jail Committee heard from Senator Jim Arnold on suggestions on where to place a newly built jail and certain specifications for a new jail. The Committee also heard from two construction project management companies during the Committee’s recent meeting.

The Knox City Police Department is investigating a break-in at the Starke County Abstract building in downtown Knox. A small amount of cash was taken from the business. If you have information that may lead to the arrest of suspects in this case, call in an anonymous tip to 772-4122 ext. 3.

The Knox City Council may approve an ordinance in the future where City employees would be taxed on their uniforms as a fringe benefit. If an ordinance is approved, it would take effect in January.

Heather Wilson was arrested Wednesday after she allegedly told police about an incident that never occurred. She has preliminary charges of False Informing of a Crime, Theft/Receiving Stolen Property and Possession of a Controlled Substance without a Prescription.

A television and an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen from the Remembrance Center and New Attitudes Hair Salon in Plymouth overnight Friday. The businesses suffered from a similar incident on November 9th. If you know anything about this incident, call the Plymouth Police Department at 936-2126.

Fred Boggess II was found guilty Thursday in Starke Circuit Court of Dealing in Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Chemical Reagents or Precursors with the Intent to Manufacture, Driving While Suspended and False Informing. He will be sentenced on November 23rd.
