Knox Man Arrested on Battery Charges

A Knox man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly battering his wife and firing a gun at her.

Starke County police received a call from the victim who said that she and James Daniel were arguing and he reportedly shoved her while she was on the phone with her father and she shoved him back. He then allegedly hit her in the face with his fist. He told her to exit the residence and her father came to get her.

According to the police report, when she was leaving the home with some of her belongings, Daniel ran outside the the back door of the residence and allegedly pulled a gun and fired at least three shots as she ran to the car. Daniel then approached the car and was yelling at her father and struck the window with the butt end of his pistol. The victim and her father were able to flee the property without any further incident.

Police arrived at the residence to speak to Daniel and he said he didn’t do anything wrong and that the victim’s father fired a gun into the ground and that he doesn’t own a firearm. He said the victim got the mark on her face because she fell on the porch. He was placed under arrest and taken to the Starke County Jail. Police found evidence that Daniel did own a .32 cal handgun and the evidence was taken into custody.

James Daniel has been charged with two counts of Attempted Battery, as a Class C Felony; two counts of Criminal Recklessness as a Class D Felony and Domestic Battery as a Class A Misdemeanor. Bond has been set at $100,000 surety.
