Tax Levy Question for Oregon and Davis Township Voters to be on May Ballot

Oregon-Davis Jr./Sr. High School

The Starke County Election Board met Tuesday morning and Oregon-Davis School Superintendent, Dr. Steve Disney, approached the board with a referendum for the May ballot.

Voters in Oregon 1, 2 and 3 and in Davis townships will have a question on the May ballot that requests a raise in the tax levy so that the Oregon-Davis School Corporation can continue to serve the community as it is now. Oregon-Davis Schools has lost significant funds from the state and is facing a financial crisis. The levy question will ask voters if they will accept the increase and this will be in addition to any other property tax levies imposed by the School Corporation.

All of the paperwork to put the referendum on the ballot has been prepared and Starke County Clerk Evelyn Skronski said that referendum will be on the May 8th ballot for those voters in the Oregon-Davis School District.

Dr. Disney was not available for comment at press time and we hope to gather more information on the state of the school in a future newscast.
