Plymouth Man Arrested after Pursuit Incident

Duane Longacre

A Plymouth man is in jail after he led police on a wild chase in South Bend and Mishawaka yesterday.

South Bend police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by 27-year-old Duane Longacre at 25th Street and Mishawaka Avenue in South Bend.

South Bend Police said they recognized the car as a stolen vehicle out of Marshall County. Police also found that he was wanted in Marshall County for two stolen cars and a handgun. Longacre didn’t stop and led police on a short police chase.

Officers reportedly saw Longacre throw items out of the car during the pursuit, including a can of anhydrous ammonia, an ingredient sometimes used in making meth.

Longacre tried to turn the corner onto Wilson Boulevard, but he lost control and came up on the sidewalk. The car then cleared a small brick wall and went airborne and slammed into a tree. The car then went into the St. Joseph River. He attempted to escape from police while in the water but he was apprehended.

He was hospitalized for his injuries and was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.
Charges are pending.
