Reported Measles Cases up to 14

14 cases of the measles have now been confirmed in Central Indiana.

All confirmed cases of measles stem from the initial case which was identified in early February. State health officials stay that no measles cases have been reported as a result of the exposure which occurred at the Super Bowl Village on February 3rd.

The Indiana State Department of Health continues to work with local health departments, health care providers and all impacted organizations to identify additional cases of measles and to prevent further transmission of the disease.

Measles is a highly contagious respiratory disease caused by a virus. It is rare in the United States due to high levels of vaccination with the Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine. More than 95 percent of people who receive a single dose of MMR will develop immunity to measles and more than 99 percent will be protected after receiving a second dose. You are encouraged to check with your health care providers to ensure that your vaccination is up to date.
