Mint Festival Planning Underway

Planning for the 35th Annual North Judson Mint Festival is in full swing, says Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry. The festival will take place on Father’s Day weekend, as always, June 15, 16, and 17.

The committee is currently working on organizing the Mint Pageant, where people will vote for the Mint King and Queen, Prince and Princess, as well as Little Miss and Little Mister. The pageant will take place Sunday, May 20, at 6 p.m. in the North Judson – San Pierre High School Auditorium. For more information or to find out how to compete, contact Cortny Barnes at (574) 207-3719.

The Father and Grandfather of the Year Contests are also being prepared. Any children interested in nominating their father or grandfather must submit an essay explaining why they feel their nominee should be chosen, and a winner will be selected. For more information, contact Terry Thompson at (574) 806-1358.

The Mint Idol Competition is set to take place on Friday, June 15, at the Lutheran School at 6 p.m., while the Ufkes 5K Run, in honor of the late health advocate Dr. Ufkes, will take place early Saturday morning. The run is sponsored by H & R Block.

The committee officers include President Terry Thompson, Vice President Donna Henry, Treasurer Sharon Barnett, and secretary Willard Tharpe. The committee holds meetings every other Wednesday, with their next meeting planned for May 2 in the basement of the North Judson – Wayne Township Public Library.
