More Than 100 Indiana Democrats To Attend National Convention In September

State Representative Nancy Dembowski

Indiana State Democrats Saturday picked 106 delegates to go to the National Convention, scheduled for Sept. 4 – 6 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

One of those delegates is State Representative Nancy Dembowski of Knox. Dembowski said yesterday that she was asked to run, and after giving it some thought, decided to “throw her hat into the ring” for a district spot. Not only did Dembowski win, but she was the top vote-getter.

“I am very humbled by the opportunity to go to the convention where I will get to cast a vote for President Obama,” Dembowski said.

She also noted that the Indiana Delegation will be the most diversified group ever sent to the national convention.

“I look forward to being able to sit in on meetings at the convention where the party platform will be decided,” said Dembowski, who has announced that she will not be running for re-election this year.

One person who is running on the November ballot is Representative Joe Donnelly, who will oppose Republican Richard Murdock for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Richard Lugar.

Donnelly expressed excitement over Dembowski’s win.

“Everyone knew that Nancy’s numbers were going to be off the charts. She is so widely thought of and revered in the party, and we’re happy having her go to the convention,” Donnelly said.
