Drew’s Gift Fundraiser To Be Held Saturday

Drew Shearin

A fundraiser to help a fund that puts musical instruments in the hands of future musicians will be held Saturday, August 4. The fund is “Drew’s Gift”, which was set up by the late Drew Shearin’s family. His mother, Deb Johnson, talks about what we can expect during Saturday’s event.

“It is at the Washington Township Fire Department and doors will open at 2 p.m.,” said Johnson. “We’re having a hog roast, live music, a live auction, a motorcycle ride and a truck ride. You can go on the website drewshearinmusic.com and all of the information is there.”

Drew was a composer, high school student and great musician who was killed in an auto accident in Starke County last fall. Johnson explained that Drew was quite accomplished in music.

“Drew had actually won a couple of competitions through the state of Indiana. Our local band directors had set him up with a composition competition and he won in 2010 and 2011,” said Johnson. “Any instrument he ever had in his hand, he was always looking for more. He loved helping kids with their music. He was just an amazing kid.”

Johnson said Drew’s Gift fund is an opportunity for younger kids to aspire to become musicians.

“Drew’s Gift is set up to help kids whose families can’t necessarily afford instruments,” Johnson explained. “We want to put instruments in young kids’ hands at an early age.”

The motorcycle ride begins at 10 a.m., the hog roast is at 2 p.m. and live music and live auction also begins at 2 p.m. For pre-sale information and other information, visit the website at www.drewshearinmusic.com.
