This Saturday, WKVI and Five Star are teaming up for another community event to help others in need. On Nov. 17, we will be broadcasting live from Five Star and taking donations to help stock the Community Services of Starke County Food Pantry in our Third Annual Food Drive.

Joan Haugh, Community Services of Starke County executive director, is looking forward to the event.

“The people of Starke County have been so generous giving to the pantry because there are people who are unemployed or who are very low income that need the assistance of a little extra food each month,” said Haugh. “I hope they show up this Saturday, Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at Five Star and buy a few extra canned goods and put them in the cart!”

Hundreds of families utilize the food pantry.

“Last month we served 299 families. We gave out over 8,000 pounds of food, but we only brought in about 3,500 pounds of food,” said Haugh.

All kinds of items are needed to stock the food pantry.

“I always say this, but we need peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, soups, spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, juices and toiletries like toilet paper, toothpaste, feminine products, diapers, dish soap and laundry soap,” Haugh said.

Stop by Five Star on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon to participate in this food drive and help fill grocery carts for the Starke County Food Pantry.
