Indiana School Grades Announced By Department of Education

The grades are in and looking good for the majority of Hoosier schools. According to the Department of Education, more than 61 percent of schools in Indiana received A or B letter grades for the 2011-2012 school year.

Department of Education Superintendent Tony Bennett announced that 40.9 percent of schools earned A’s, 20.1 percent of schools earned B’s, and 20.3 percent of schools earned C’s. He said only 18.6 percent of schools earned a D or lower, similar to last year’s percentage. Fortunately, this is lower than in the 2009–2010 school year, and 207 schools received A’s for the first time this year.

Bennett said that these results show that school leaders and teachers are focusing on the skills students need to succeed in their academic and professional careers.

In Starke County, Knox Community High School received an A, scoring higher than they did last year when they received a C. Unfortunately, the middle school received an F grade – same as last year, while the elementary school received a C, also the same as last year. North Judson-San Pierre High School received a C, same as last year, and the elementary school, once again, received an A. The middle school received a B, one grade higher than they received last year. Oregon-Davis Elementary School received a C, and the high school received a D, improving their score over last year’s F.

In Pulaski County, Winamac Community High School and West Central High School both received A’s, while West Central Middle School received a C. West Central Elementary School received a D, and Winamac Community Middle School received a B. Eastern Pulaski Elementary School received an A, as they did last year.

Culver Elementary School in Marshall County received an A while the high school received a C, and the middle school a D. Argos Community Elementary was awarded a D grade, and the high school earned a B. Plymouth High School returned an A, higher than last year’s C.
