Winter Weather Preparedness Week Encourages Caution, Safety

We are approaching the winter season and this week has been designated as Winter Weather Preparedness Week.

Being prepared for cold, snow, freezing rain, sleet and ice will help minimize the impact this winter could have.

Most winter-related deaths are the result of car accidents in snow events. When snow is forecast or is happening in the area, pay attention to road condition reports and allow extra time to get to your destination. Slow down and exercise caution.

Winter weather-related injuries and deaths are also caused by slips and falls as well as exposure to cold. Make sure your furnace or heating system has been inspected by a furnace repair technician and that you operate it properly in the cold weather season. If your heating system is under maintenance, you may book a boiler rental for your heating needs. Install smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors or check the existing devices to ensure they are working properly.

Be prepared when winter weather strikes. Always have a supply of non-perishable food items in stock as well as blankets and flashlights.
