Flu Season Average This Year, Vaccines Still Recommended

It’s a pretty average flu season this year so far, according to Indiana State Epidemiologist Pam Pontones.

The flu is popping up early in some parts of the country, but Pontones says not too many cases have been reported in the state.

“We will and do expect to see more cases as the season continues, our activity generally peaks around February but generally a little earlier or later,” stated Pontones.

She encourages you to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

The Pulaski County Health Department and Starke County Health Departments have flu shots available. Call ahead for an appointment and eligibility at the Starke County office at 772-9137 and in Pulaski County call 946-6080. No flu shot clinics have been scheduled at this time.
