Gun Permit Requests Skyrocket in Pulaski County

Pulaski County Sheriff Michael Gayer

The number of gun permits has risen in Pulaski County since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting on Dec. 14.

Pulaski County Sheriff Michael Gayer said the staff had been processing five gun permits a week and now five permits a day are being processed. Lifetime permits are being issued more frequently since the right to bear arms has come into the news since the school shooting.

Applications are being taken at a normal pace in Starke County.

The permitting process takes a little bit of time and the paperwork goes to the state so you will not receive your actual permit for a few weeks after your fingerprints and application are submitted.

Sheriff Gayer also said that he sent a letter to the school superintendents at the Eastern Pulaski and West Central Schools to see what can be done to improve security at the schools. A meeting has been scheduled between Eastern Pulaski School Superintendent Dr. Robert Klitzman and Sheriff Gayer after the first of the year to go over lockdown drill procedures and extra security recommendations at the corporation.
