Knox School Board Highlights Eighth Grade Students For Reality Store

Superintendent A.J. Gappa

The Knox Community School Board recognized a few eighth grade students during their meeting this week for their experiences at the Reality Store. Superintendent A.J. Gappa said Mrs. Ciboch, instructor of Family and Consumer Sciences at the middle school, brought in the students to make the report to the board.

“The Reality Store involves all Starke County students in the eighth grade,” explained Gappa. “As in the past it was a successful program. Kids got to see what it’s like in real life as far as expenses go and what costs are involving daily living – what house payments are, what car payments are, paying for insurance, buying groceries – things like that.”

Gappa said the students reported on what jobs they received and how they budgeted their salary to fit the financial burdens that were put upon them. The students said the experience opened their eyes.
