Starke Commissioners Seeking Volunteers To Fill Vacant Board Seats

Starke County Commissioners

The Starke County Commissioners are currently seeking interested, qualified, and community-minded individuals to fill several vacancies on a number of boards.

Commissioner Kathy Norem said they are currently seeking an individual to appoint to the Starke Regular Drain Board for a three-year term. Two appointments are needed for the Kankakee-Iruquois Regional Plan Commission for one-year terms, and one appointment is necessary for the Planning Commission as a four-year term.

The commissioners are also seeking two appointments – one democrat, one republican – for four-year terms to the Health Board. Two appointments for the Board of Zoning Appeals are also needed, as well as a council appointment, to a four-year term. Norem said the Aviation Board is also in need of a republican appointment to a four-year term.

The Hospital Community Board has two open appointments for four-year terms, while the Alcoholic Beverage Board has two vacancies – one republican to be appointed by the commissioners and one democrat council appointment – for one-year terms.

Finally, commissioner appointments are also required for the City of Knox Board of Zoning Appeals (one-year term), Regional Workforce Board, P.T.A.B.O.A. Board, and Innkeepers Tax/Visitors Association Board.

Many of these boards require specific party affiliation under Indiana Code. Party affiliation is determined by the most recent primary election in which the individual voted or a current letter of support provided by the party Chairman. Currently-seated board members may be given preference for a subsequent term.

The two mile jurisdiction is defined by the City of Knox as follows: On the east side of Knox – the City limits to 600E; On the west side of Knox – the city limits to 200E; On the north side of Knox – the city limits to 200N; On the south side of Knox – the city limits to 300S.
