Deceptive Letter Making Its Way to Local Businesses

Local businesses should be on the lookout of a deceptive letter that may appear to come from the Business Services Division of the Secretary of State’s Office.

Secretary of State Connie Lawson stressed that the letter should be ignored as it is an attempt to defraud Indiana business owners.

The letter that looks like its coming from a legitimate government agency solicits a $125 annual fee that claims will be used for record keeping and processing of a company’s annual minutes. The letter even uses a state law out of context. The return address goes to a box at a UPS Store in Speedway.

Lawson wants to assure you that these letters did not come her office.
