Fire Destroys Winamac Business

An overnight fire destroyed a Winamac business.

Winamac Fire Chief Bill Weaver told WKVI that The Winamac Fire Department was called out at 11:20 p.m. ET Friday night to a fire at Dillman Tire, located at the corner of Logan and Pearl Streets. The fire started in the eastern part of the building where a workshop is located.

The fire spread quickly and Weaver said he called for assistance from the Star City, Monterey and Knox-Center Township Fire Departments. The Knox Fire Department provided a large aerial truck in order to help tackle the fire.

The fire devastated the business with the roof falling in as firefighters desperately fought the stubborn blaze. Weaver indicated the fire was terribly difficult to extinguish, but the fire was successfully put out nearly six hours later.

No one was in the building at the time of the fire and no one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation with the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office. Weaver stated that the fire marshal was called to the scene early Saturday morning, but will be back on Monday to conduct a more thorough investigation. It could be a few more days after that when a cause is released.
