The DeMotte State Bank Relay for Life team held a fundraiser over the weekend with the help of Mexico Lindo, and sources say the event was an overwhelming success, having raised more than $400 for Relay. DeMotte Team Captain Candice Miller said her team was out in force helping to serve customers, and while it was something she’s not used to, she had a blast.

“I thought it was really fun. We had a good time. I know it may be not something that’s fun on a daily basis, but on Saturday night, all us girls at Demotte State Bank had a good time helping the waitresses down at Mexico Lindo and helping the customers and interacting with everybody. It’s a different type of customer service but it was fun!” Miller said.

The first 25 women who attended the Give Back Night at Mexico Lindo received carnations, courtesy of Main Street Florist in North Judson. Miller said her team greatly appreciated the donations from the florist to brighten up the day. She said the event drew a decent crowd and the support was overwhelming, but they couldn’t have done it without the assistance of Mexico Lindo.

“We had a lot of people come in and show their support for our team and for the American Cancer Society. A lot of donations and a wonderful percentage came to us from Mexico Lindo and we’d like to thank them greatly for letting us come down there, we really appreciate it,” said Miller. “We made a total of $420 for the evening; it was a very good, good night for us. We enjoyed it, and very much appreciate them letting us come down and invade their space.”

The Give Back Night raised $120 in donations and $300 from the evening’s proceeds, but the DeMotte State Bank Relay team isn’t stopping there as they continue preparing for the upcoming First Annual Relay for Life Pageant, which will take place April 21 at 2 p.m. The pageant will be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in the Family Life Center with various age groups from one to 18. Winners in each class will be in the Little Relay for Life Parade at the event.
