Knox Planning Commission to Vote on Commissioner Appointment

Jeff Berg

The city of Knox has been getting by without a planning commissioner, after Greg Matt was not re-appointed to the position in January. Since then, a debate has been ongoing between Mayor Rick Chambers and the Planning Commission between who has the authority to appoint a planning commissioner, and still no one has been appointed.

However, despite the dispute, Planning Commission Board President Jeff Berg told WKVI that the Planning Commission is moving forward to appointing a planning commissioner who can do the job, and afterward the dispute between who has the authority can be settled. Since the conflict has been going on since Jan. 1, Berg said it’s high time a planning commissioner can be appointed to begin a viable inspection program for the city.

Berg said he has a candidate in mind who has gone through the interview process with the Planning Commission and Mayor Rick Chambers, and Berg said Chambers has given the candidate his blessing, effectively resolving the issue for now. The appointment will be finalized on Tuesday, when the Planning Commission will vote on the appointment.

Berg declined comment on who the candidate is, but said the candidate has been around the area for a long time and has appropriate past experience, making him a great asset for the city. Berg said he’ll be a great fit for the city.
