The Relay for Life event is only getting closer, and teams are preparing their fundraisers for the year to ensure efforts kick off to a great start. The Demotte State Bank Relay Team has announced two fundraisers planned in the near future with proceeds from the events going toward Starke County Relay for Life.

The first event will be held at Mexico Lindo on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. Mexico Lindo has teamed up with the Demotte team to host a “Give Back Night,” with a percentage of proceeds from the evening to go toward Relay. Team Captain Candace Miller said that with the event just five days before Valentine’s Day, Team Demotte State Bank will be present during the evening to help with refreshments and do whatever they can to make the evening special, but you don’t need a valentine to enjoy the night.

“It’s just a fun night to go out, enjoy a meal, and give back to the Relay for Life! But it’s not just for couples. It can be for family and kids, or any loved ones. Just bring anyone out that you would like to!” Miller said.

After that, the team is planning to hold the First Starke County Relay for Life Pageant at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Knox. The event will be held on April 21 at 2 p.m. in the family life center, where a winner will be crowned from each group to represent their title and participate at the Starke County Relay for Life event at the Hamlet fairgrounds in June.

Entry fees are $30 per contestant, with age groups consisting of Teeny Tiny, ages one to three; Tiny Miss, ages four to seven; Little Miss, ages eight to 12; and Miss, ages 13 to 18. The team is seeking sponsorships and donations to cover expenses. Applications can be picked up at Demotte State Bank, or anyone interested can call Pamela McDonald at (574) 806-1143, or Candice Miller at (574) 806-2901. The application deadline is March 29.
