Meth Lab Suspect Appears for Initial Hearing

A suspect involved in an alleged methamphetamine lab bust in Starke County appeared in Starke Circuit Court Wednesday for an initial hearing.

Johnny Mullens has been charged with felony counts of Dealing in Methamphetamine, Neglect of a Dependent, Possession Precursors or Chemical Reagents, and Possession of Methamphetamine, plus misdemeanor counts of Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Paraphernalia. A plea of not guilty was entered and his initial bond of $25,000 was raised to $50,000 surety.

Mullens and Amber Lain were arrested March 1 after Starke County officers served a search warrant for narcotics at a trailer at 3395 S. 200 E. in Knox. Police reportedly found methamphetamine, precursors, marijuana, syringes and an active meth lab within the reach of a toddler during the search warrant.

Lain is facing a charge in Knox City Court for Overpurchase of Pseudoephedrine and faces additional charges of Conspiracy to Manufacture Methamphetamine and Neglect of a Dependent. She has since bonded out of the Starke County Jail.
