April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month.

This is a time to devote to do everything we can do prevent abuse and to support families and children. That includes making resources available for quality childcare, affordable health services, parenting education resources, substance abuse programs and mental health programs.

The majority of child abuse cases stem from situations and conditions that are entirely preventable in an engaged and supportive community. Cities and towns that work to create good school systems and who come together to ensure that affordable housing is available in good, safe neighborhoods are less likely to be stressed.

The Starke County Commissioners recently signed a proclamation recognizing that Starke County is a community willing to fight against child abuse.

If you would like to know more about child abuse prevention, contact the Starke County Child Abuse Council, a division of the Coalition Against Domestic Abuse, at (574) 772-2222 or (574) 772-3331.
