The reading program went under extensive study this year by the Eastern Pulaski School staff. The school board members did hear a recommendation on textbooks for reading at their recent meeting. Superintendent Dr. Robert Klitzman said the recommendation came from the textbook committee which was chaired by Principal Jill Collins.

“This textbook will be used for the next six years in our reading program,” stated Klitzman. “The committee, which is combination of teachers and parents, decided on the series called Journeys and it’s published by Houghton-Mifflin.”

This series of textbooks comes with a price tag that’s clearly easy to read, but a cost the board approved to provide the best education for the elementary students.

“These textbooks, for the numbers that we have right now, it’s going to cost $75,000 and we can’t do without them. Reading is so important we’re not going to worry about that because reading is primarily the most important program as such that we can offer at the elementary school,” Klitzman said.
