Plymouth residents will soon have a new place to eat, drink and fiesta. The Marshall County Alcoholic Beverage Commission approved a liquor permit for a Hacienda Mexican restaurant in Plymouth after the South Bend-based chain set a goal of opening in the former Beef O’Brady’s location by May 20.
CEO Dean Goodwin says it’s Hacienda’s first restaurant in a community as small as Plymouth but cites tremendous demand for the restaurant among Marshall County residents. He says the chain may look at other small communities if the Plymouth restaurant takes off.
The ABC board received one letter opposing the permit. It cited a 1981 case in which a patron at the original Hacienda Restaurant in Mishawaka had consumed an alcoholic beverage and was involved in an accident that resulted in the death of pedestrian. At the time Hacienda officials said there was no evidence that the person involved had been in their restaurant that night, but they settled the case out of court at the insistence of their insurance company.
ABC board members decided that wasn’t enough to deter them from issuing a permit to the local establishment.
