National Walking Day April 3

It’ll be a nice sunshiny day on Wednesday for National Walking Day.

The American Heart Association is encouraging you to take 30 minutes out of the day on Wednesday in order to walk and be active.

Walking an extra 20 minutes a day will burn off seven pounds of body fat each year. Walking on a regular basis increases bone density, decreases mental stress and improves your circulation. Walking is the single most effective form of exercise to achieve heart health.

Only 15 percent of Americans meet the American Heart Association’s recommendation for at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity, such as brisk walking, every week.

IU Health Starke Hospital and Purdue Extension Starke County are teaming up this year to help you get moving in a walking challenge. We will hear more this engaging challenge on April 3, National Walking Day.
