The jury reached a verdict in the trial against Virgil Noble, who has been found not guilty of Rape and Sexual Battery as Class B felonies following a three-day trial in the Starke Circuit Court. Noble was arrested on Dec. 28, 2010 following accusations of inappropriate sexual contact with a Hamlet woman.

The jury reached its verdict of not guilty on all counts and entered the courtroom around 2 p.m. this afternoon, announcing their verdict to Special Judge Arthur Christopher Lee from Fulton County. The defendant was visibly relieved upon hearing the jury’s verdict, while the victim and family were visibly upset; the victim’s mother left the courtroom and expressed her displeasure with the verdict.

The jury heard final arguments in the case this morning before being released to deliberate on the case. The jury deliberated for a few hours before announcing they had reached a decision around 1:30 p.m. this afternoon.

Noble was on trial previously in this case, but it ended in a mistrial. A new trial was ordered and presided over by a special judge.
