Kelly Hines, head of the Publicity Committee for the Panhandle Pathway, said that they are looking to get volunteers to help clean up the trail that boasts a length of more than 22 miles. Hines encourages everyone to meet up at one of the trail heads in Winamac, Star City or Royal Center at 8 a.m. ET on Saturday, June 1 to help clean the trail. She said they will provide trash bags, gloves, and directions to get started.
In addition to that, the organization will be holding a Facebook photo contest to run all day long on June 1 with prizes offered to those who submit the best photographs to the Panhandle Pathway Facebook page. The contest features three categories: best nature photo, best trail use photo, and best overall photo. Those not on Facebook can email the picture to the contact link on their website.
The Friends of the Panhandle Pathway organization isn’t the only group getting in on the action; the Prairie Trails Club will also be holding a day of trail maintenance, bike riding, geocaching, food, fun and entertainment as they hold a fundraiser and membership drive to support the construction and maintenance of the North Judson/Monterey Erie Trail.
