IU Health LaPorte Hospital to “Build a Better Trail to Health”

As part of the 2013 Day of Community Service, IU Health LaPorte Hospital and LaPorte County Parks will be working to expand and enhance trails and green spaces on May 17 at Red Mill County Park from 8 a.m. to noon. Professional percussionist Kent Arnsbarger will provide tranquil Caribbean steel drum music for the event.

Thor Thordarson, president and CEO of IU Health LaPorte Hospital, said the hospital staff understands that the success of the hospital is linked to the health of the communities it serves. That, he said, is why the hospital has centered its efforts for the Day of Community Service on emphasizing their commitment to wellness and outdoor activities.

And it’s not just the LaPorte hospital that is participating on this day; thousands of IU Health team members throughout the state will be working to expand and enhance at least 20 trails and green spaces on May 17, following their efforts last year to build 25 frames for Habitat for Humanity homes. The Day of Community Service is spearheaded by IU Health’s Strength That Cares, employee-volunteer program, which is reported to have more than 10,600 team members.

The hospital is still looking for volunteers of all ages and abilities. For more information, call Laura Gould at (219) 326-2415.
