The Knox VFW is boasting some newly replaced ceiling tiles in their building, thanks to a Team Depot grant and the efforts of associates at the Valparaiso Home Depot. Joe Lapointe, department head of plumbing at the Home Depot, said they donated $4600 worth of material to the VFW through a Team Depot grant from Home Depot’s corporate level and associates from the store installed the tiles free of charge.

Lapointe said it’s part of their effort to give back to the community; because many of their customers are patrons of the Knox VFW, they felt they could give the VFW a hand to show their appreciation. The work began at 9 a.m. Thursday morning and finished up about five hours later, leaving some spare tiles behind in case the new tiles become damaged.

He said the main focus of Team Depot is to help out veterans and their organizations.

“We’ve been helping out homeless shelters, things like this, but the main focus is to help out veteran’s organizations and veterans. They’ve given a lot with the wars going on for 13 years now, and there’s a lot of vets that need help. These organizations help the vets out, so we help them out to maintain their buildings so they can continue with the work that they do,” said Lapointe.
