LaPorte DUI Task Force to Conduct Sobriety Checkpoint

The LaPorte County DUI Task Force will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint during the evening hours of Saturday, June 1.

The location of the checkpoint will be determined by the crash data, impaired driving arrest data and officer safety.

During the checkpoint, members of the DUI Task Force will be talking to drivers and asking for the driver’s license and registration plus evaluating the driver for possible signs of drug or alcohol impairment. Motorists who are not impaired can expect a short delay of two minutes or less. If all information is correct and there is no need to detain the driver any longer, the motorist will be released from the stop.

The LaPorte DUI Task Force is a grant project that is funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and is administered and monitored by the Indiana Governor’s Council on Impaired and Dangerous Driving. The task force consists of officers from the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department plus the city of LaPorte and Michigan City Police Departments.
