Ride to Remember to Honor Fallen Knox Soldier

A soldier from Knox who lost his life in the line of duty will be honored during the Indiana Patriot Guard Riders’ Ride to Remember. The ride, which begins Saturday, May 18 and ends Sunday, will honor – among many others – Sgt. Joseph Ford of Knox, who died at the young age of 23.

The Patriot Guard Riders are encouraging everyone to join them and the families in honoring the fallen of the area who died in the line of duty, serving the United States military during the Iraq and Afghanistan conflict. The riders and other participants visit the grave sites of those who were lost, where possible, and conduct a short memorial service in their honor. This year, the Patriot Guard Riders are honoring 16 men and women.

On Sunday, the riders will travel to Evansville and assemble at the American Red Cross at 29 S. Stockwell Road in Evansville at 8 a.m. to honor Ford and Spc. David W. Taylor of Dixon, Ky.

Neither a Memorial Day nor Armed Forces Day ride, the Ride to Remember is their way of demonstrating to those families who lost a loved one and invited the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in their funerals, that their sacrifice is not forgotten, nor their service to their country.

You do not need a motorcycle to participate – all vehicle types are welcomed. The only requirement to ride along is respect for the nation’s soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and their families.
