Fraudulent Activity Suspected at LaPorte Banks

The LaPorte City Police Department is investigating fraud activity at two banks.

Two female suspects reportedly attempted to obtain cash advances for large sums of money off stolen or fraudulent credit cards.

The suspects, described as African-American females, allegedly entered the banks at different times but are believed to be working together. They requested a cash advance and inquired what the limit was. The teller advised that the credit card company would be contacted and when they called, the teller was directed to speak to a “bank representative” from a phone number provided by the suspects. The numbers given were not matching and the tellers became suspicious of the instructions provided by the “bank representative” to increase the credit limits and they discontinued the transactions.

If you have any information about these incidents, or if you need to report any other criminal/suspicious activity call the LaPorte City Police Department at (219) 362-9446.
