IDHS Encourages Reporting Damage Caused By Storms

The severe weather and flooding in the northern Indiana area caused some significant damage in affected areas and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security is encouraging Hoosiers who sustained damage since May 31 to report the damage online. The reports will help the department evaluate the situation and determine if federal assistance will be requested as a result of the weather.

A link to the form is available on the IDHS website at www.in.gov/dhs. Click on “Report Damage From Severe Storms and Flooding – Beginning May 31, 2013” in the middle of the page under “Featured Topics.”

Individuals will be asked to provide their name, address, phone number and describe the damage sustained. Losses can include the loss of personal property and structural damage to homes.

Questions should be directed to your county emergency management agency, and individuals without Internet access are encouraged to contact a friend, family member or neighbor for help, or access the internet at a local library or other public facility.

This report is not an application for a grant through FEMA and will simply be used to help local emergency management agencies and IDHS assess damage to determine if federal assistance can be requested.
