LaPorte DUI Task Force Completes Sobriety Checkpoint

 
 
The LaPorte County DUI Task Force conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Saturday, June 1 on westbound traffic on State Road 2, west of Andrew Avenue.

The goal of the checkpoint was to deter impaired driving and remove impaired drivers from the roadways.

Police stopped 146 vehicles during the checkpoint where one set of standardized field sobriety tests was administered and one portable breath test was administered. Five warnings were issued for driver’s license violations, 15 warnings were issued for different vehicle registration violations and one seatbelt citation was issued.

At the same time the sobriety checkpoint was being conducted, one officer from both the LaPorte City Police Department and the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department conducted saturation/roving patrols. These patrols resulted in 23 traffic stops, 23 warnings and six citations were issued for various offenses.
