LaPorte Police Respond to Three Alcohol-Related Crashes

The LaPorte City Police Department arrested three people in two days in three separate alcohol-related accidents.

On Friday, LaPorte police responded to investigate an accident where an SUV ran into a house and a NIPSCO meter. Jose Carillo-Muro, 21, of LaPorte was arrested on preliminary charges of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated and Driving While Never Licensed. No injuries were reported.

A short time later, Thomas Miller Jr. of LaPorte was arrested after he allegedly drove too fast down Rose Street in LaPorte and slammed into a parked car. Witnesses told police that Miller appeared to be limping as he walked away from the scene. He was identified and later located and taken into custody. He was arrested on two counts of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated and Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident.

On Saturday at 2:57 a.m., a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Melodee Koziatek of LaPorte reportedly struck two parked cars in the back of Ogle’s Bar as she was attempting to leave. One of the vehicle was pushed into the building. She told police that she was leaving the bar when a friend jumped out in front of her which caused her to swerve and she struck the two parked cars. Koziatek was arrested on three counts of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated.

All of the charges filed in the three incidents were misdemeanor charges and LaPorte police remind you to designate a sober driver to transport you if you are intoxicated.
