The pastor at the Winamac First United Methodist Church will be ordained this Saturday at the Indianapolis Convention Center.

Rev. Matthew Landry has studied for eight years and has gone through the preparation process in order to get to this step. When he is ordained during the “Celebration of Ministry: Commissioning and Ordination” ceremony, he will be the youngest ordained elder in the Indiana Conference.

In the Methodist discipline, elders lead and serve the entire church with the primary responsibility for the preaching and teaching of ministry. The elder is responsible for administering the sacraments and ordering the ministry of the church.

Landry received recommendations to become a candidate for ordination while still an undergraduate student at Saint Francis.

Landry grew up in the Knox area and his parents, Wayne and Sandy Landry of Knox, and his wife, Candice Buell Landry, will be attending Saturday’s ceremony along with other family members, friends and church congregation members.
