Marshall County Commissioners Approve In-Kind Contribution to CRC

The Marshall County Commissioners entertained a request by Brent Martin and Ron Liechty to provide paving for a new parking lot for the Community Resource Center on Plum Street in Plymouth.

CRC officials are planning an expansion project to include a parking lot north to Jefferson Street plus additional building plans. Liechty stated that the company is expecting to add more citizen services in the way of Saint Joesph Health Center in the building and expansion is necessary. Plans include the demolition of a building to accommodate a 44-space parking lot for the center. Business is expected to triple with this expansion and the addition of the parking lot is necessary.

To help pay for the paving project, the officials asked the commissioners for an in-kind contribution. The commissioners were asked if the highway department could bring in the stone, pave the parking lot and mark the spaces as an in-kind contribution.

Commissioner Deb Griewank noted that the Community Resource Center provides help to all citizens of Marshall County and is widely used with the WIC program, REAL services, the Department of Family and Children, and the Center Township offices already in the building.

The commissioners asked that the county attorney draw up a memorandum of understanding between the county and the CRC before they move forward. Upon the signing of that agreement, the commissioners would agree to the in-kind contribution for the installation of the parking lot. The city of Plymouth has also given the CRC an in-kind contribution for building purposes.

The pair noted that the project would be complete in September.
