The ordinance limits the hours for part-time employees to 56 hours per pay period. If an employee works over 30 hours per week in a six-month period, the department head can come before the commissioners and request that employee receive insurance benefits. There are only 10 employees that could face that option and most of them work at the sheriff’s department.
This is the same ordinance discussed and passed by the Marshall County Council members last week in a joint session with the commissioners. Two council members were at the meeting yesterday morning and stressed how helpful it was to have the department heads present to guide them as to the easiest way to keep track of part-time hours.
The rules were suspended and the ordinance was approved on all three readings.
