North Judson Mint Festival Pageant to Be Held Friday

The North Judson Mint Festival pageant is just one day away and Festival Committee Member Teresa Trout said the pageant will feature at least 20 contestants, possibly more. She said the committee is still waiting to receive applications and fundraiser money from six girls, despite the fact that these items were due May 31.

Trout said last year’s pageant queen has been working closely with the committee and held a class on May 18 at the library in North Judson, offering contestants the chance to learn what to expect at the pageant, how to put on their makeup, how to walk, what they should wear, and how they should talk to help them have a better overall pageant experience.

Trout said that while the pageant doesn’t have it’s own theme, it follows the theme of the festival.

“It’s actually my first time doing a pageant as well as two girls that are working with me which are Kelly Anderson and Michelle Prater, so it’s all of our first times. We’re just kind of starting over and starting fresh,” said Trout. “We really don’t have a theme this year; we’re just going with the whole Mint Festival theme of ‘Mint is Green in 2013,’ so hopefully it’ll work out well.”

The committee and other helpers will begin decorating the North Judson-San Pierre High School auditorium at 3 p.m., just one hour prior to the time when contestants are invited to show up to rehearse until the event begins at 6 p.m. Contestants will have a pre-interview with the judges before the event begins, and then each contestant will go on stage and answer an impromptu question.

She said that, in the spirit of fairness, all the judges are from out of the county, and while they are making their decision, the audience will be kept entertained.

“We do have a little bit of entertainment while the judges are making their decision, and overall I’m guess everything should be completely over probably by 8 p.m.,” said Trout. “We have a guy coming in with his guitar and sign a couple of songs on stage while the judges are making their decision.”

The pageant will take place at the North Judson-San Pierre High School auditorium Friday at 6 p.m. Contestants are encouraged to be there by 4 p.m. for a rehearsal, and for those who wish to help decorate, arrive at the auditorium at 3 p.m. to help out.
