Open House to Be Hosted at New Starke County Jail Facility

The Starke County Commissioners have announced that they will soon be hosting an open house at the site for the new Starke County Jail and Sheriff’s Office on Monday, July 22 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The commissioners will offer tours at the site, located at the corner of State Road 8 and County Road 550 East in Knox, including tours of the building and grounds.

According to Kathy Norem, president of the commissioners, the purpose is to showcase the plans for the new facility as they are currently drawn, allowing county residents to provide input prior to the plans being finalized. Norem said the commissioners are currently in the last phase of planning with their architects and engineers, allowing for another opportunity for the public to offer suggestions.

Both firms responsible for the architectural and engineering aspects of the plan, DLZ and Skillman, will have representatives on hand to answer questions and receive suggestions. In addition, a booth will be staffed, providing information for local contractors or vendors who wish to be considered for services, products, equipment, or other services for the project. Norem said the commissioners wish to provide the opportunity for local businesses to get involved in the project whenever possible.

The anticipated completion date of the new jail facility is late 2014 or early 2015.
