Hamlet Town Board Approves Chicken Ordinance

The Hamlet Town Board has approved an ordinance regarding the regulation of chickens in city limits.

According to the ordinance, residents may have up to six chickens on a property. Roosters, ducks and rabbits were not approved. The board members unanimously approved the ordinance during their meeting last week.

Board President Dave Kesvormas stated in a press release that several cities and towns throughout Indiana have recently adopted urban chicken ordinances as a source of organic or fresh home-based food product.

Hamlet residents that are considering raising chickens are encouraged to review the town’s ordinance for specific regulations prior to including chickens on their property. Stop at the Hamlet Town Hall to review that ordinance.
