Hanley Warren Chapman, the suspect in a shooting incident in North Judson on Wednesday night, is expected to be in Starke Circuit Court for an initial hearing this week.

Starke County Prosecutor Nicholas Bourff has formally charged Chapman, 48, with Criminal Recklessness as a Class C Felony and Resisting Law Enforcement as a Class D Felony.

Chapman allegedly fired three shots from a handgun into his living room floor after an argument with his wife. Chapman’s brother-in-law was in the room with him when the shots were fired but he was not injured. Chapman was extremely intoxicated at the time of the incident and was taken into custody after a SWAT team deployed tear gas in a locked room he was in in the home’s basement. Chapman would not respond to commands to surrender made by the North Judson police officers.

Champan remains incarcerated in the Starke County jail on a $50,000 Starke Circuit Court surety bond and is to have no contact with the victim.
