The Knox Community School Board members approved the retirement of a long-time high school teacher during their meeting Monday night.

Superintendent A.J. Gappa said a replacement was hired after the retirement was approved.

“Terry Bierman, who had been here for over 30 years, retired just before school started,” stated Gappa. “He was replaced by Byron Faulstich a brand-new teacher from Plymouth High School and Marion University out of Indianapolis.”

There were some employment changes at the SCILL Center this year as well.

“We have a teacher who is going to be leaving us and the SCILL Board met recently to approve a replacement for that teacher so that will be a slight change in how things have operated over there,” Gappa said.

The welding class has seen much success since its implementation and there are now two classes and two instructors.

“We have morning and afternoon classes this year and we have two instructors so that program has expanded and it’s going well. The instructors this year will be Andy Odle, who was there last year, and a gentleman by the name of Matt Matlock who will be teaching first year students in the morning,” explained Gappa.
